INOVA Healthy Plate Club Visit!
Imagine your plate filled with bright colors – red strawberries, orange carrots, yellow peppers, green broccoli, and purple grapes. That's "eating the rainbow!" The club learned that each color in fruits and veggies helps our bodies in different ways. It's like each color has a superpower!
To make learning super fun, they played a game of "Jeopardy!" They had to answer questions about which colors help with what. Did you know that orange veggies, like sweet potatoes, are great for your eyesight? Or that purple foods, like blueberries, help your brain? It was awesome to see everyone getting so excited about healthy eating.
They also got crafty! The club made veggie garden crafts, which helped them learn about all kinds of different vegetables. It's not just about eating them, but also knowing where they come from.
And guess what they cooked? Zucchini fritters! First, they tried raw zucchini. Some were surprised at how it tasted! Then, they got to work in the kitchen. They learned important stuff like egg safety, how to use a skillet safely, and how to handle cooking tools. It’s important to be safe in the kitchen. The best part? They learned how to flip the fritters like pros! It takes practice, but they did it!
The club's big goal is to "eat a rainbow" every day. That means trying to eat different colored fruits and veggies with every meal. It's a fun challenge, and it's super good for you!
The Healthy Plate Club is showing us that learning about healthy food can be fun, tasty, and colorful. Maybe you can try "eating a rainbow" this week too! You might just discover your new favorite veggie.
